Moving house is mostly a planning exercise. Get the sequence right and the day itself becomes a series of small, predictable jobs. This guide walks through a typical house move from the first enquiry to the last box, based on the moves we run every week around Wrexham, across North Wales and nationwide.

What a house removal actually involves

A house removal is more than loading a van. A good crew arrives with protective materials, dismantles what needs dismantling, protects floors and doorways, loads in a planned order so nothing is crushed, then unloads room by room at the new address.

Most domestic moves are completed in a single day. Larger homes, long distances or difficult access may be split across two days, with the load staying securely on the vehicle overnight.

A realistic planning timeline

You rarely get much notice of a completion date, so the trick is doing the reversible work early and leaving only the date-dependent tasks until late.

How removal quotes are worked out

Removals pricing is driven by time, volume and access — not by property type alone. Two three-bedroom houses can differ significantly if one has a loft full of boxes and the other has been half-emptied.

That is why we ask for detail up front, either through the online quote form or a free home survey. A precise picture means an accurate price rather than a rough estimate that changes on the day.

Packing yourself or letting us do it

Self-packing keeps the cost down and works well if you start early. Buy proper double-walled boxes rather than reusing supermarket cartons, keep boxes under a weight you can comfortably lift, and label the top and one side with the destination room.

A full or partial packing service is worth it when time is short, when there is a lot of glassware, art or china, or when you would simply rather not spend three weekends wrapping plates. Professionally packed items are also handled fastest on the day, because the crew knows exactly what is in each box.

Move day, step by step

The crew arrives, walks the property with you and agrees what is moving and what is staying. Protection goes down, dismantling starts, and loading follows in planned sections rather than randomly.

At the new property the process reverses: furniture goes in first and is rebuilt, then boxes are placed in the rooms you have labelled. Before the crew leaves, do a final walk-through of both properties so nothing is left in a cupboard or loft.

What affects the cost of your move

Anything that adds time or handling adds cost. Long carries, multiple flights of stairs, restricted parking, last-minute additional items and weekend or end-of-month dates all push a quote up. Flexible dates, a decluttered home and clear access all bring it down.

We give you a written, itemised quote so you can see what you are paying for, and we do not add surprise charges on the day for work we agreed in advance. For an accurate figure, use the online quote form or book a free home survey.

Local moves, long-distance moves and coverage

We are based in Wrexham and move households throughout North Wales — including Chester and the border, the Wirral, Flintshire, Denbighshire and the coast — as well as long-distance moves anywhere in the UK.

Local moves are usually a straightforward single-day job. Long-distance moves are planned around driving hours and delivery windows, and we will tell you at quote stage whether your move is best done in one day or two.

How to choose a removals company

Compare like for like. A cheaper quote that excludes materials, dismantling or a second crew member is not actually cheaper. Ask what insurance is in place, who your point of contact is, and what happens if your completion date moves.
